PHENYTION-VI (Phenytoin sodium)

Phenytoin is used to control certain type of seizures, and to treat and prevent seizures that may begin during or after surgery to the brain or nervous system. Phenytoin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Phenytoin IV administration
Ideally, administer undiluted via a syringe pump through a large gauge needle or IV catheter into a large forearm vein. If dilution is essential, mix with 100–250ml sodium chloride 0.9% to a final concentration of 10mg/ml, and administer by infusion pump.
Phenytoin is injected into a muscle, or given as an infusion into a vein. A healthcare provider will give you this injection if you are unable to take the medicine by mouth. Your breathing, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and other vital signs will be watched closely.
